The MBA Programme, established in 1994, is aimed at developing high level managerial skills and preparing students for management careers in business and other organizations. An effective manager must have the ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternative solutions, make decisions and implement them. The MBA Programme is designed to help the students acquire and develop these skills. The programme is thus aimed at providing opportunities for specialization as well as opening new horizons in scientific management in preparation for career change or upward movement in career of participants.
Specifically, the programme is designed to provide the participants the following capabilities:
- Basic theoretical skills and tools for efficient and effective performance in a wide range of management and related areas.
- Appropriate decision making based on application of sound analysis of problem situations and available options.
- Application of emergent concepts to areas of management, human behaviour and consulting practice.
- Blending multi-disciplinary perspective and sound analytical techniques in the various decision-making environments that impact on the organization.
The MBA is a part-time Master Degree Programme that runs for a minimum of two years. A participant is expected to spend a minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 8 semesters to satisfy the requirements for graduation. Students attend lectures on Saturday and Sunday.
MODE OF STUDY:
Participants, we recognize learn through five major modes viz: Inter-disciplinary Seminar Series available in the Faculty, formal lectures using audio-visual aids, inter-action among participants and personal study/research. The programme features a fine balance between formal lecture session, tutorials and interactive group activities. We employ a dynamic teaching approach which gives premium to input from participating managers. The ideas and experience that the participating managers bring to the source and share with each other are an integral part of the training process.
Group sessions are designed to enhance learning by providing independent real life case studies requiring the exercise of pragmatic high-level judgment. Study notes, extracts from journals and reference materials are provided to serve as a source of continuous self-development of participants into the future.
The programme demands considerable commitment of time and enthusiasm from all participants. At the end of each semester, a comprehensive examination is compulsory for all LASU-MBA courses. All lectures and topics are rated by participants at the end of each session as feedback to ensuring very high programme standard.
Resource persons for LASU-MBA courses consist of highly rated lecturers, seasoned professionals and experienced instructors from our collaborative University. Guest Speakers who are seasoned professionals in their respective fields are introduced into the programme to speak on topics of professional/academic interest. In addition to intellectual and professional excellence, effective communication skill is a prerequisite in our choice of resources persons.
