1. With the creation of Lagos State in 1967, the Ministry of Education and Community Development was created amongst others.

The Ministry at that time was patterned after the system of the old Western Region Ministry of Education which had an Inspectorate Division headed by a Chief Inspector of Education  as its professional arm.  The Inspectorate  arm had branches in the five Administrative Divisions of the state, each headed by a Principal, Inspector of Education.  Community Development at this time was administered as another professional arm of the Ministry.  However, due to population increases of pupils/students), it became necessar4y to decentralize the administration and Management of Education in the State.

In 1972 therefore, the first Lagos State Schools Service Board was set up under the chairmanship of the late Professor Oladele Ajose with the Objective of assisting the Ministry in the Performance of a large past of school Management functions.  The Board was dissolved in 1975 and succeeded by a Teaching Service Board which was also disserted in 1976.
